The town
The town on the wine plain: Savatiano vineyards, Byzantine chapels and the Olympic Equestrian Centre.
Markopoulo is the seat of the municipality and the farming heart of the Mesogeia, the plain east of Athens where vines and olives have been grown for centuries.
Around the town you will find wineries that welcome visitors for tastings by appointment, the medieval tower of Liada on a hill at the southern edge of town beside the Byzantine church of the Taxiarches, and the venue built for the 2004 Olympic equestrian events.
