Agios Georgios at Brauron

Small domed church within the archaeological site, with late-sixteenth-century wall paintings.

The story

Beside the ancient sanctuary, Agios Georgios introduces a later chapter of worship at Brauron. This small domed church belongs to the early post-Byzantine period and preserves paintings from the late sixteenth century. Local ecclesiastical tradition links it with Saint Timothy. Its presence invites you to see the landscape as a place used and reinterpreted across many centuries, rather than a single moment in antiquity.
