The story
Welcome to Hamolia, on the southern shore of the bay of Vravrona. On official lists this beach is called Gkrava Hamolias. It is about a hundred and sixty metres of sand, with a few rocks and pebbles, and it faces north. The shape of the coast shelters it from the prevailing winds, so rough seas are rare, and the seabed slopes gently as you wade in. Do not expect sunbeds or umbrellas.
This is an unorganised beach, where tamarisks give natural shade and stone and wooden benches line the shore. The state has monitored the water here every summer since 2018, and each published assessment has rated it excellent. Hamolia also has a long past. In this area archaeologists found remains of a prehistoric settlement and Mycenaean chamber tombs, and since 1957 it has been protected as an archaeological site. So take a swim, rest under the trees, and enjoy the view across the bay.
