Archaeological Site of Brauron
The sanctuary of Artemis Brauronia, one of the oldest and most revered in Attica, bound up with Iphigenia and the rite of the “little bears”.
The sanctuary
The sanctuary of Artemis, its museum, the Erasinos wetland and the quiet coves of Hamolia.
Vravrona, ancient Brauron, lies in a green valley where the Erasinos meets the sea. Here stood one of the most important sanctuaries of Artemis in Attica.
Today the archaeological site and its museum sit next to a protected wetland, home to birds and reeds, with the clear coves of Hamolia a short walk away.

The sanctuary of Artemis Brauronia, one of the oldest and most revered in Attica, bound up with Iphigenia and the rite of the “little bears”.

Built in 1962 beside the sanctuary: votive reliefs, statues of children, toys, mirrors and rare wooden offerings preserved by the marsh.

A protected Natura 2000 wetland at the mouth of the Erasinos: reedbeds, wet meadows and 88 bird species recorded in a single year.

A sandy, unorganised beach on the south shore of the Vravrona bay, shaded by tamarisks, its water rated excellent in every published assessment since 2018.
